Thoughts on: Advice For Graduates

It's tough for graduates and in these times it’s very tough. Your success is in your hands, and so is your failure. Here are a few tips, most are based on experience, a few are based on common sense. I hope they help.

  1. Be visual - Use your communication skills to think beyond a generic email with a PDF attached.

  2. Be specific - Don’t ‘spray & pray’. Never show a branding agency your furniture designs.

  3. Be a hustler - Look for opportunity. Think about what a company needs. Freelance and find your own clients.

  4. Be in control - Make sure you’re not being exploited. If you work for free, you’re the person that defines the terms.

  5. Be you - Enthusiasm and a fresh approach are your greatest assets.

  6. Be critical - Be hypercritical of your work but not of yourself.
